In a rematch of the 2005 Second Division championship, the Western Mass Pioneers and Charlotte Eagles were not able to determine a winner, finishing in a scoreless draw. A similar result to last season’s final where the two clubs finished in a 2-2 draw, concluding with the Eagles topping the Pioneers in penalty kicks.
The Eagles, who have already qualified for the tournament as league champs, are known for their offensive power and tested Pioneer keeper Josh Cole, forcing him to make three saves while outshooting Western Mass 18-7. Cole earned a shutout in his first outing of the season, while Chris McClellan has started out the year with two straight clean sheets.
