USOpenCup.com Recap - Saturday, May 13th, 2006
On Saturday, the Carolina Dynamo became the first PDL team to wrap up their Open Cup qualifying with a 2-0 win over the Central Florida Kraze. Randi Patterson scored in the 57th minute and Darryl Roberts added an insurance goal in the 88th minute to help the Dynamo finish 4-0-0 to start the season. The game was their second road game of the early season after they defeated the Bradenton Academics 3-2 last Thursday with Roberts scoring the game-winner in the 64th minute.
PDL Fans learned last year that a 4-0-0 qualifying record does not automatically book a spot in the Open Cup. Last season, the Southern California Seahorses started the season with four wins and missed out on the tournament because of a tiebreaker with the Orange County Blue Star and the Cascade Surge.
In the USL Second Division there were a pair of draws. Cincinnati hosted Pittsburgh and the two teams finished scoreless. Wilmington and New Hampshire nearly finished scoreless, but Kenneth Bundy scored in the 90th minute for the Hammerheads. However, before the Phantom fans could even start to collect their things to go home, Marc Hubbard equalized for the home side.
