Bucks dominate Inter 4-0
New Orleans plays spoiler, eliminates Austin 3-1
Wednesday featured five PDL games, all of which impacted Open Cup qualifying in some way. The Michigan Bucks (3-0-0) find themselves one win away from a return to the Open Cup after a 4-0 thrashing of the Cleveland Internationals. This will add yet another chapter to the rivalry between the Bucks and the Indiana Invaders as the two teams will meet on Sunday in the final Open Cup qualifier, with a trip to the Cup on the line. The Bucks, who have made their name in the tournament as the first PDL team to defeat a Major League Soccer side, haven’t qualified for the Open Cup since 2003, where they advanced to the Third Round where they fell to the Metrostars of MLS.
The New Orleans Shell Shockers eliminated the Austin Lightning with a 3-1 victory. Austin already had one loss, but still had a chance if they won their final two games and got some additional help.
The Cape Cod Crusaders (2-0-1) stumbled on their quest to qualify with a 1-1 draw at the Vermont Voltage. They can still qualify with a win at Rhode Island on Friday, and a loss by either Williamsburg or Virginia Beach.
Augusta kept their hopes alive with a 2-1 win against the Raleigh Elite. Like most of the Southern Conference, the Fireball need to win their final game (Saturday, at Nashville) and hope that Laredo stumbles at the DFW Tornados on Sunday.
The Chicago Fire Premier (2-1-0) also kept their qualifying chances intact with a 2-0 win at the Ft. Wayne Fever. They need a win their final qualifier, a tough road game at Indiana on Saturday, and get a lot of help as well.
