In front of a small crowd and bitterly cold weather, the Paterson

Silk Sox rolled over the Hartford Rovers 6-0, moving on the the

Eastern Semifinals of the National Challenge Cup. Paterson ran

up a 4-0 lead in the first twenty minutes, through two goals each

from Frank McKenna and Bill Fryer. From that point, Paterson too

it easy, not wanting to risk injury on a slippery field. Near the end

of the match, McKenna added two more goals to bring his match

total to four.

Abbot Worsted moved on to the Eastern Semifinal of the National

Challenge Cup, with a 4-0 victory over Fore River F.C. at Quincy,

Massachusetts. Fall River started the game with only 10 men, as

Wells was late arriving to the game. Worsted took immediate

advantage, scoring after only two minutes through Corrigan.

Worsted missed may other good chances to widen their lead. At

the 25th minute, just as Wells appeared for Fore River, Worsted

made the score 2-0 thought an Parker header. Worsted forced

Lambie to make save after save, and finally increased their halftime

lead to 3-0. Dundas dribbled the ball nearly fifty yards before letting

loose with a shot that Lambie got a hand on, but could not stop.

Corrigan added to the total in the second half, beating Lambie as

he slipped while going for the ball.

Playing in front of 1,500 fans at 35th St. and Wentworth Ave. in

Chicago, the Bricklayers F.C. and Thistles F.C. played to a 2-2

draw after extra time, forcing a replay on Dec. 31. The Brickies

got on the board first on a goal from Jack Fleck, but Thistles

countered on a tally from McConnell. In extra time, the Brickies

scored first once again, through Carroll, and Dick Vidano made

the match level once more for Thistles.

The Bricklayers F.C. advanced to the quarterfinals of the National

Challenge Cup, defeating Thistles F.C. 2-0, in a replay of their tie

game a week ago. Carroll put the Brickies on the board, rushing

in after Stevenson fumbled a pass from Jack Fleck. Feck added the

insurance goal in the second half, when Tommy Walker connected

with Gardiner, who then crossed to Fleck for the score. Both sides

finished the match with ten men, as Gavin Weir and MacKenzie

were forced to leave the game after a hard collision.
