At Packard Park in Detroit, Chicago's Bricklayers F.C. defeated
the home side Celtic F.C. 1-0 to advance to the Western Final
of the National Challenge Cup. The field was in less then desirable
conditions, as a blustery wind left the field covered with a layer if
ice. The Bricklayers had a good chance to open the scoring early
in the second half. Cruickshank just missed the post after beating
his defender, and Celtic goalkeeper Timney cleared a crossing pass
from A. Walker from the goal mouth. Celtic also had chances of their
own, but could not convert. With ten minutes remaining, walker
again sent a pass into the penalty area, this time met by teammate
Ambler, who beat Timney for the winning goal. Also in the second
half, a hard foul by Walker on Celtic's Bowie led to a scuffle between
the two, leading to Referee Tom Birks sending both players off.
