After a six year wait, the Fall River Marksmen captured the National
Challenge Cup once again, defeating Vesper Buick 4-2 at High
School Field in St. Louis. 14,000 fans came to witness the match,
jam-packing every inch of the High School Field stands. Fall River
showed their clear superiority throughout the game, showing
virtually no weakness. The Marksmen started off quick, netting
their first goal within six minutes from the start of the game. Fred
Morley headed in a nice cross from Dougie Campbell. Vesper
managed to tie the game from the penalty spot, when Tom Harris
converted the kick that was awarded for a Fall River' Alex Kemp
was whistled for a handball foul.
Just five minutes after the restart, Fall River struck again through
Morley. Just a minute later, Vesper mad it 2-2 on a Joe McCarthy
goal. From that point it was all Fall River, as Johnny Reid scored the
winning goal when the ball came out of a goalmouth scrum. Harold
Brittan added the final goal just before the final whistle.
