Holley Carbuertor became the first team from Detroit to reach the
Final of the National, Challenge Cup, defeating Sparta A & BA 2-1
in front of 7,000 at Chicago. Gerrit Visser paced the Motor City
kickers with both goals. Visser scored the first goal after twenty-five
minutes in the first half. Adolph Burger equalized for Sparta a couple
minutes after halftime, heading in a corner kick from Cerveny. The
level scores lasted only minutes however, as Visser found the net
once again to give Holley the lead again. Later in the game, Burger
had a change to bring his club level once more, as Sparta was
awarded a penalty kick. Burger's shot was saved by Dick, preserving
the advantage. Sparta continued to press for the remainder of the
game, but the Holly defense held on to preserve their spot in the final
