For the second year in a row, the National Challenge Cup Final ended
in a blowout in favor of the Eastern champions, in the form of a 7-0
victory for the Fall River Marksmen over Holley Carburetor, in front of
10,000 in Detroit. Fall River began the onslaught in the 14th minute,
as Harold Brittan scored on a free kick sent into the penalty area.
Moments later, Dace McEachran scored the first of his two goals on a
pass from Jimmy Kelly. Holley had one threatening chance in the first
half, but the twenty yard shot from Rutheford was saved by Tommy Blair.
Fall River resumed their flood of goals at the 61st minute, Tec white
scoring from a Brittain header. Fall River follwed up with goals from Jimmy
Kelly and Dougie Campbell, making the score 5-0. Holley nearly pulled back
a consolation goal when Dalrymple's shot struck the post. As time ran down,
McEachran and White each scored their second goals, pushing the score to
7-0, causing many fans to leave the stadium before the final whistle.
