All 8 American USL First Division clubs automatically qualify for the 2005 US Open Cup. Clubs will enter the tournament based on their 2004 reaular season league results:
Entering in the Second Round: Charleston Battery, Minnesota Thunder, Seattle Sounders, Virginia Beach Mariners
Entering in the Third Round: Atlanta Silverbacks, Portland Timbers, Richmond Kickers, Rochester Raging Rhinos
