Baltimore Colts advance to Maryland final
USASA Region I releases qualifying bracket
The weather finally cooperated for the Maryland State Soccer Association, allowing the twice-delayed state quarterfinal and one of the semifinals to take place. Baltimore Colts FC punched their ticket to the final by defeating the Towson Ice 4-3. The Colts are hoping to qualify for the Open Cup for the second time in three years. In 2005, they fell in the first round to the Richmond Kickers Future of the PDL 3-0.
In the last remaining quarterfinal match, Baltimore Bays 89 shutout Maryland FC 2-0 to earn the right to play A.C. United. United and the Bays will square off on March 11 at a site to be determined, with the winner moving on to the state final against the Colts on March 25.
A.C. United were given a bye into the semifinals since they are a merger of Allied S.C., the team that earned one of the two Region I Open Cup spots last season, and a club called Christos SC.
Also, USASA Region I released their qualifying bracket for the 2007 Open Cup. The two finalists in the bracket will qualify as the representatives from the region. To view the bracket, visit the USASA Region I website.
