New and Old take Region I cup berths
First timers Emigrantes das Ilhas and 2007 qualifiers Aegean Hawks move on.

Emigrantes Das Ilhas booked their first ever Open Cup appearance today with a 4-2 extra time victory over Danbury United at the Portuguese Cultural Center in Danbury, Connecticut.. Danbury started the scoring quickly as Daniel Thomas put the home side in front after five minutes. The score stood at the half, but Emigrantes would take control at the restart. Zico Veiga netted the first of his two goals in the 55th minute, and then struck again in the 78th for a 2-1 Emigrantes lead. With time winding down, Danbury were awarded a penalty kick, which was converted to tie the score at 2-2 and send the match to extra time. The score stood even after the first fifteen minutes of the extra session, but Emigrantes changed things thereafter. Deivaldo DaSilva scored the go-ahead go midway through the second overtime period, and Justin Fernandez added the clinching goal near the end. The result reversed the 2007 meeting between the two clubs, which Danbury advanced to the Open Cup on penalty kicks after 1-1 draw.

The Dulles Sportsplex Aegean Hawks, who were playing short key personnel due to the Memorial Day holiday weekend, still managed to get by the NPSL’s Charm City F.C. 1-0. William Fierro knocked in a pass from Anders Kelto in the 73rd minute, for what turned out to be the game-decider. The Hawks qualified for the 2007 Open Cup by defeating Allied S.C., a club Charm city manager Jason Rims was in charge of at the time.
