St. Louis’ Kutis S.C. won the National Challenge Cup, defeating New York Hakoah in the second leg of the final, 3-1, at Zerega Oval in the Bronx. Billy Looby, Richard Meisemann and Bob Roney scored for Kutis, giving them a 6-1 aggregate victory.
April 15, 1928
In the second leg of the National Challenge Cup final, The New York Nationals defeated Bricklayers S.C. (Chicago) 3-0, at Soldier Field in Chicago. George Henderson scored twice in the first half, and Siegfried Wortmann added the final goal in the second half. the win marked only the third time in the 15 years since the competition began that a club from New York took home the cup.
April 16, 1933
Stix, Baer & Fuller defeated the New York Americans 1-0, in the first leg of the National Challenge Cup final at Sportsmans’ Park in St. Louis. Bill McLean scored the lone goal in front of 15,200 at Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis.
April 16, 1934
Stix, Baer & Fuller claimed their second National Challenge Cup in a row, defeating the Pawtucket Rangers 5-0, in the third leg of the final at Walsh Memorial Stadium in St. Louis. The clubs split the first two matches, Stix winning 4-2 in the first leg, and Pawtucket taking the second, 3-2 .Billy Gonsalves and Werner Nilsen, who as members of the New Bedford Whalers defeated Stix, Baer & Fuller for the cup title in 1932, scored goals in all three games.
April 17, 1938
Chicago’s Sparta A & BA defeated Brooklyn St. Mary’s Celtic 4-0 in the first leg of the 1938 National Challenge Cup final, at Sparta Stadium in Chicago. James McDermott, Frank Trimmell and James Wolf scored for Sparta, whose appearance in the final was the first by a Chicago club since 1928.
April 17, 1971
With five players having played the previous night in St. Louis for the New York Cosmos, New York Hota defeated Fall River in extra time, 4-1, to advance to the U.S. Open Cup semifinals. The previous night, Hota coach Gordon Bradley and five other players participated in the New York Cosmos NASL season-opening 2-1 win over the St. Louis Stars. The six men then flew to Fall River, Massachusetts to help Hota into the Open Cup semifinals. Fall River led 1-0 for most of the match, but Paul Dalano pulled Hota even with two minutes remaining. In extra time, Hota netted three goals to move the German-American league stalwarts to a match with Cleveland’s Danubia Schwaben.
April 18, 1937
The New York Americans defeated Shamrocks S.C. (St. Louis) 4-1 in the second leg of the National Challenge Cup final, at Starlight Park in the Bronx, winning the cup on a 4-2 aggregate. Four different players scored goals for the Americans. The Shamrocks were appearing in their fifth straight Challenge Cup final, through they played under three different sponsors during their run.

The New York Americans defeated Kutis S.C. 1-0, in the first leg of the National Challenge Cup final in St. Louis. J. Maiseman scored for Kutis in the first minute, and Harry Quigley equalized for New York midway through the second half.
