It’s in the percentages & the US Open Cup Telethon
Yes folks it’s all in the percentages in the USL 2nd Division of US Open Cup Qualifying. Total points just don’t matter anymore in this new version. It’s also sad and unfair to see the Harrisburg City Islanders who played their six full matches and earn more points than the Pittsburgh Riverhounds because the last match in qualifying for the Northern Virginia Royals against the Riverhounds was postponed for threatening weather in the Pittsburgh area & instead of rescheduling it in the Qualifying calendar it will be made up on August 9th. But in the percentages game this match doesn’t count anymore because they never played it and for that Harrisburg gets eliminated in my eyes on a technicality.

The rules are that all nine sides play their first six matches on their regular season schedule that doubles as US Open Cup Qualifying points. Pittsburgh only played 5 yet this new percentage rule allows them to take the last spot of the USOC Qualifying table. Harrisburg wins two, draws one & lost three for a total of seven points while Pittsburgh won two, lost three for six points. If Harrisburg has one point higher than Pittsburgh to me the Harrisburg City Islanders should advance to their first round slot. Hopefully next season’s qualifying rules; this silly percentage stuff is taken out.

Now let’s get down to a fun and exciting Memorial Day Weekend in the PDL. So many clubs were fighting for two spots in their respective conferences to make the US Open Cup. Dominating performances by some, others were nail biting to barely make their spot to qualify but as all of us were glued to our monitors and hitting the refresh button on the USL Website as well as finding out the scores in the US Open Cup & USL Soccer threads of the Big Soccer Website.

You felt like as soon as their was a final score and you added up all the totals in record and goal differential, you were ready to announce the winners like you were hosting the Jerry Lewis Telethon only this time it was qualifying for the US Open Cup, not the tote board to see how much money was raised for M.S. which is still a worthy cause to donate your money too.
