Pat Noonan of the U.S. Open Cup champion New England Revolution has been selected as the USOpenCup.com Player of the Tournament for the 2007 season. Noonan was the main catalyst for the Revolution offense in the last three games of their title-winning run, scoring two goals and assisting on four others. The Indiana University product either assisted on, or scored, six of the last seven New England goals of the tournament. He scored the game-winner in extra time of the semifinal match against the Carolina RailHawks, and assisted on game-winners in the quarterfinals (vs. Harrisburg City Islanders) and the final (vs. FC Dallas).
Other players that were considered for the award were Noonan’s strike partner Taylor Twellman (four goals, including two game-winners) and Seattle Sounders forward Sebastien Le Toux, whose five goals led all scorers in the tournament.
Noonan took a few minutes to talk about his team’s first championship and finally getting that monkey off their back.
