A soggy night in Milwaukee
Wave United are eliminated after draw vs. Thunder
After moving to a secondary field at the Uhlein Soccer Park, Milwaukee and Minnesota ended their second leg match in a 0-0 draw, eliminating Milwaukee from the 2004 US Open Cup. Minnesota won the first leg 1-0 at home on Friday night.

Rochester/Syracuse: A win-win situation
Rochester beats Syracuse 1-0, both enter Open Cup
Rochester will continue a rich Open Cup tradition in 2004 thanks to a big win over the Syracuse Salty Dogs 1-0 on Saturday night. Doug Miller was the hero, scoring the loan goal for the Rhinos in the 79th minute.
 
Despite the loss, Syracuse will still qualify for the Open Cup. The Salty Dogs will enter the Cup as a wild card. They will begin play in the 2nd round.

Silverbacks are back in the Open Cup

CHARLESTON, South Carolina (Saturday.15.May.2004) – The Atlanta Silverbacks gained a hard-fought 2–2 away tie against the Charleston Battery this weekend and when that result is added to the red-and-black’s 2–0 victory in the prior weeks first-leg match in Atlanta, the 4–2 aggregate-goals score qualifies the Silverbacks for the third-straight season into the prestigious Lamar Hunt U.S. National Cup tournament, and gave Atlanta four out of the six available points in A-League competition.

Richmond Kickers advance to Open Cup

VIRGINIA BEACH — You have to wonder if the Virginia Beach Mariners left their legs in Richmond.

Playing their second game in as many nights against the Richmond Kickers (1-1-1), the Mariners were whipped 2-0 Saturday in their home opener at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

The game was a huge disappointment for a club that fields what is widely considered its most talented squad in recent years.

A-League
Based on the Tournament Format for the 2004 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, there will be eight (8) qualification slots for the ten (10) U.S.-based A-League teams. All Primary Qualifiers and the top Secondary Qualifier enter in the Third Round. The two remaining Secondary Qualifiers enter in the Second Round. The primary qualifiers will be the winners of a two-leg, aggregate goal series predetermined by geography. If the score is tied after the two matches, penalty kicks will determine which teams advance.
