Orange County sees red, Spokane gets final PDL berth
Blue Star shown 3 red cards in 2-1 loss to Fresno
Last year's Open Cup cinderella story, the Fresno Fuego defeated the Orange County Blue Star 2-1 on Sunday night to deny the Blue Star access to the Open Cup. Orange County was shorthanded for the majority of the match, accumulating three red cards.

Orange County, who advanced to the PDL semi-finals last season, suffered their first loss of the young season, giving the final PDL Open Cup berth to the unbeaten (4-0-0) Spokane Shadow.

Fire Reserves qualify, leave Bucks, Fever out in the cold
Chicago defeats Des Moines 2-0 at home
The Chicago Fire Reserves got 1st half goals from Hamid Mehreioskouei and Indiana University's Drew Moor as they defeated the Des Moines Menace 2-0 at home on Sunday night. The win puts the Fire Reserves into the US Open Cup for the first time in the team's short history.

With the win, that eliminates the PDL's most successful Open Cup team (7 wins), the Michigan Bucks. The draw between the Bucks and the Ft. Wayne Fever on May 18 proved to be costly to both teams, as they were both eliminated on Sunday after Chicago's victory.

Boulder Rapids punch their ticket to the Open Cup
2nd entry from PDL Central to be decided on Sunday
The Boulder Rapids Reserve hammered the St. Louis Strikers 6-0 at home on Saturday night to clinch the first of two Open Cup berths from the PDL Central Conference.

The win clears up what was a fairly complicated logjam at the top of the PDL Central. That leaves the Michigan Bucks in a must-win situation at home vs. the Cleveland Internationals. However, that result may not matter at all because if the Chicago Fire Reserves defeat the Des Moines Menace on Sunday, Chicago will earn the second entry.

DWF Tornados win showdown with El Paso
Qualify from PDL South with perfect record
El Paso, Texas - The Dallas/Ft. Worth Tornado qualified for the 2004 US Open Cup Friday night with a 3-2 win over the El Paso Patriots. The match turned out to be a preliminary round cup match in a way, as the two clubs were the only ones remaining in contention for the final PDL South spot. The Tornados took a 1-0 halftime lead on a Lourenzo Andrade de Silva goal in the 37th minute.  Mark Rowland put Dallas up 2-0 in the 53rd minute, but El Paso responded 4 minutes later, as Paul Cabrera scored for the Patriots. DWF put the game out of reach with a goal from Clay King in minute 67. Three minutes later, Julio Frias brought El Paso within a goal, but the Tornados held on to win 3-2, and qualify for the US Open Cup
