Late night knockout for Harrisburg City Islanders
PSL qualifying wrapped up with San Diego win
The Harrisburg City Islanders saw their Open Cup dream snatched away from the other side of the country. Harrisburg did themselves no favors though, losing earlier in the evening to defending PSL Champions Wilmington Hammerheads, 3-1. This left the Islanders as scoreboard watchers, needing San Diego to lose to California later in the night. Their hope was smashed, as Dustin Hammond gave the Guachos all they needed to beat California Gold 1-0, and earn a spot in the US Open Cup.
Western Mass and New Hampshire Phantoms also qualified Saturday night. Western Mass beat the Phantoms 2-1, but since Harrisburg City lost to Wilmington, New Hampshire got a reprieve, and qualified themselves.
Pro Soccer League
USL's Pro Select League will send six teams to the 2004 US Open Cup. The 2003 Champion Wilmington Hammerheads will receive an automatic berth into the tournament with the remaining five berths to be filled by the teams with the best point total in four qualification matches (2 home / 2 away).
